First of all you need to understand that SSB checks your overall personality for leadership skills. So as a long term preparation for SSB you need to work on your personality by enhancing leadership skills through the following practices in day to day life:-
- Enhance your General Awareness by daily reading newspaper and watching news channel covering both national and international news. If you improve your awareness level your take of level will be higher in SSB wherein you will be able to answer more questions for pertaining to general awareness in interviewing technique. In GTO technique also the quality of GDs and lecturette will be better.
- Improve upon your Communication Skills as it will help you to express yourself better and this has multiple advantages. In the first day of SSB itself i.e. during Screening your expression will be checked and if you are communication skills are good you have very bright chances of getting screened in. Also candidate with good communication skills will be able to express himself better in all the tasks of SSB. I will give you three tips to improve upon your communication skills.
- First and foremost you have to start speaking in English .
- Secondly you have to subject yourself to this medium for longer duration by reading English literature and watching English programs and documentaries.
- Thirdly you have to start thinking and talking to yourself in English. It is a very effective tool as after sometime, thoughts will start coming to your mind in English and this will make you more spontaneous with this language. Normally in any group discussion, idea comes to your mind initially in Hindi, which you mentally. translate into English and by the time you are ready to speak you are late. But if you attain spontanenity in English language you will be able to express yourself instantaneously in any discussion.
- Enhance your friend circle in school/ college and neighbourhood. This will help you to develop Social Skills which will be assessed by the Selection Board as the leader is required to readily mix with group members. Remember in SSB for the GTO task you will be in a group of around 10 candidates and here group minded person can within minutes mix with the group and will be able to perform better in a group. A group minded person learns how to handle different types of personalities.
- Always be more proactive whenever you are in your friend circle and try to be an effective member of the group: only then you can emerge as a potential leader in a group, which is exactly what SSB is looking for in you.
- Do regular physical activity on daily basis. Through physical activity like running, pushups sit-ups and pull ups you will be able to develop physical stamina, determination and drive. Remember a person with good physical stamina will be able to do better during 2 days of physical activity in SSB during outdoor task off GTO technique.
- Dress well at all times and ensure that your daily turn is exemplary. In fact your turnout is an indicator of your motivational level. Candidate who is well turned out in SSB shows that he or she is motivated to do well in life.
- In order to inculcate greater sense of Responsibility, which is assessed in SSB, do your day to day task sincerely and full fill all your commitments. Be punctual at all times as punctuality indicates sense of commitment of time. Do follow all rules/ regulations and norms of society.
If you follow all these practices in your day to day life you will certainly develop your personality in the long run. Since all three techniques of SSB are personality based therefore the moment your personality develops your performance will automatically improve in SSB.
